Private Cloud
What is private cloud?
Private cloud is cloud infrastructure dedicated exclusively to a single organization, unlike the multi-tenant environment of public cloud. Private clouds provide many of the same benefits as public cloud while offering greater control over infrastructure, security, and data.
How does private cloud work?
Private clouds can be hosted within an organization’s own facilities or in a cloud provider’s data center. Like public cloud, they use virtualization to allocate computing, storage, and networking resources to applications and workloads. The key difference is that these resources are dedicated to one organization rather than shared among multiple customers. Organizations can manage the environment themselves or use a provider to manage some of it or all of it.
Why is private cloud important?
Private cloud allows organizations to gain cloud flexibility while maintaining greater control over security, infrastructure, and compliance. This can be particularly valuable for organizations that handle sensitive information or operate in highly regulated industries.
Benefits and use cases
- Security and control: Dedicated infrastructure gives organizations greater control over their environment.
- Compliance and data sovereignty: Keep sensitive data in specific locations to meet regulatory or business requirements.
- Legacy and specialized workloads: Support applications or hardware that may not be well suited to public cloud.
- Low latency: Keep infrastructure close to users, applications, or data that require fast response times.
- Predictable costs: Dedicated resources can provide greater visibility and predictability for ongoing infrastructure spending.
- Business reliance: Build redundancy, backup, and recovery into the environment to maintain critical operations.
