Security Information and Event Management (SIEM)
What is SIEM?
Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) (pronounced “sim”) is digital security software that assembles activity logs in one place so teams can spot threats and detect unusual behavior early.
How does SIEM work?
SIEM systems collect data from endpoints, servers, applications, networks, and cloud services. Then they analyze that data, searching for patterns or suspicious activity that could represent a security issue. These systems alert security teams when something needs attention.
Why is SIEM important?
A security team may get thousands of alerts from multiple systems. Without a SIEM tool, all that information may not reach security analysts in time for them to see connections and investigate suspicious activity. Consequently, SIEM software has come to play an essential role in how organizations monitor security and compliance activities in Security Operations Centers (SOCs).
