Large Language Model

What is a large language model?

A large language model (LLM) is an advanced type of AI model trained on enormous amounts of data to understand and generate human-like language. LLMs can answer questions, summarize information, create content, analyze text, and assist with many other language-based tasks. ChatGPT and Gemini are well-known examples.

How do LLMs work?

LLMs learn patterns and relationships in language during training. They use those patterns to predict which words or phrases are likely to come next based on the context of the prompt. This allows them to generate clear, relevant responses without being explicitly programmed for every question or task.

Why are LLMs important?

LLMs are a foundational technology behind generative AI (GenAI) and are also commonly used as the reasoning engine within agentic AI and other AI systems. They have dramatically expanded what people can accomplish using natural language, from conversational assistance and content generation to summarization and coding.

Benefits and use cases

LLMs are used to power customer service tools, create and summarize content, assist with software development, and analyze or extract information from large volumes of text. They can also provide the underlying reasoning capabilities for AI agents and agentic AI systems.
